Volunteer Opportunities

Direct Patient Services

As vital members of the Mother Teresa Hospice Care Team, Patient and Family Volunteers provide companionship, support and assistance to patients residing at home, in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals and any inpatient care setting.

Administrative Assistance

Providing office and clerical support services for departments and teams throughout the organization, Administrative Volunteers assist by greeting visitors, preparing information and support materials for mailings, answering phones, entering data, helping with printing and duplication services, filing records and documents, and making phone calls.

Mother Teresa Hospice Alliance

The Mother Teresa Hospice Alliance is a service department whose volunteers assist in planning, producing, and participating in fundraising activities, events and projects. They develop community partnerships and participate in community programs to raise awareness of the Mother Teresa Hospice mission.

Healing Heavy Hearts Volunteers

Healing Hearts Volunteers reach out to grieving families and individuals by assisting with support for both adults and children affected by the loss of a loved one. They provide emotional support by phone or by assisting in facilitating a grief support group. Patient/family and advanced bereavement trainings are required.

Pastoral Care Volunteers

Working closely with Mother Teresa Hospice Chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual support and comfort to patients and families, Pastoral Care Volunteers also assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and act as liaisons to the religious communities Mother Teresa Hospice serves and training new volunteers.

Pet Therapy Volunteers

Volunteers (both human and non-human) visit Mother Teresa Hospice's patients in local care centers, nursing and assisted living facilities. Volunteers and their pets provide alternative ways for the patient to express feelings and emotions. Screenings for temperament, behavioral and health for non-human volunteers is required.

Community Outreach Volunteers

Community Outreach Volunteers promote community education and awareness of the Mother Teresa Hospice mission. Whether setting up a tabletop display at health fairs or making presentations to groups at churches or civic organizations, they have a unique role as Mother Teresa Hospice ambassadors. Orientation and community outreach training required.

If you are interested in serving the community by providing needed support to Mother Teresa Hospice's patients with a life-limiting illness and their families (in any of the above categories or in the Art & Music realm), call the Volunteer Department at 724-775-2040.
